Dear Kirk of Dunedin Family,
PRAYER LIST
God has certainly shown his love this week. We celebrate the in and out of three people from the hospital last week. Carole Williamson – a heart stint – now home, Frank Wanner – did not need the pacemaker – now home, and Dorothy Wilson – successful surgery – now home. We are praying for the same good turn for Don Graus who is in Countryside Hospital undergoing tests. Keep prayers going for him please. Please keep Mary Robe who is having knee surgery this Friday in your prayers too. If you want to help Mary take care of Bob next week or the week after let me know. We would like to offer daytime and nighttime assistance. They are really great people. Also please keep former member John Russell in your prayers. John has been diagnosed with lung cancer. I spoke with him today on the phone and his faith is as powerful and lifting as ever. At 87 he feels confident of God’s love and embrace. We received a letter today from Gangels too. Kenn continues to heal up and he and Betty request continued prayer and look forward to seeing everyone soon.
GROWTH CONTINUES
We celebrate new members Jerry and Jan Boyd who stood in church on Sunday and were warmly welcomed. An article on this nice couple is included in the October Embrace newsletter. Both Bible Studies continue to sustain the congregation during the week. I sat in on the Thursday 7 pm study last week an was impressed with the enquiring minds” and hunger for God’s word. The Wednesday Parables group never ceases to amaze me as well. Two new friends added to the group around the tables. Please join in these mid week studies. God’s work is worth it!
STRONG LEADERSHIP
The council approved a list of new elders for the class of 2011. I’ll put those names and biographies in the October Embrace but just to say the group will prove to add additional depth and faith to an already strong council. The congregation will vote on the new class in November.
UP ON THE ROOF
The roof of the church is coming along nicely. Maybe it is funny for me to write this in a “how is God at work at The Kirk” but in fact the roof has been a pain for many years. The good news is the plywood and sealer work is complete on the areas we targeted and next week Done Rite Roofing will come and put the rolled roofing finish on those areas. How wonderful to see this project knocked out.
A WONDERFUL GIFT
Recently the church office was given QUICKBOOKS NON-PROFIT SOFTWARE as a gift. This is something we really needed, but could not afford to obtain. We are grateful to the Lord for providing this powerful software to help our finance ministry simplify, clarify and report all aspects of the church expenses and income. Tools like these make ministry a joy.
OUT TO PASTOR
I would love to spend time with you. Anytime you want to speak with me or visit I will make time for you. Your faith walk and life are important to me and I am here for you. Call me and we’ll set up some time together. I like walking with members, or I can visit you in your home, and of course you are welcome here in my office anytime. My cell phone which is usually with me is 735-2089. My schedule is full but I will always make time for you. I am in the office as much as possible to write, study, pray, prepare sermons, work on ministry program details, support staff, care for volunteers and meet with committees. Depending on needs I am out often calling at hospitals or visiting members. Once a month I lead a Bible Study at Mease Manor Apartments. In the evenings I have Monday evangelism calling and Thursday worship practice. I try to spend the other evenings with my family and soon Seth’s high school soccer will kick up and Deb and I will get “bleacher butts” hanging out at the games. With all of this though I want you to know how very valuable you are to me and this church. I want to know how I can pray for you and encourage your relationship with Jesus. I love getting emails from members letting me know how what they are going through. It helps me to pray specifically for your needs. So write me anytime. I love hearing from you.
May God bless you, keep you and make His face to shine upon you! Oh yes, and give you peace!
Pastor Jerry
