Dear Kirk Leaders and Intercessors,
LOW DRAMA-HIGH HOPES
The summer is moving forward, and the strength God has provided each day has not lifted. We rejoice. The peace, love and unity within the church is palatable and beautiful. We give thanks. While there have been many projects and ministry activities, there is quiet favor within the church over it all. Thanks be to God. There are signs of health and signs of life everywhere.
STRONG MEN
More and more we see the men of The Kirk stepping up. Some are volunteering daily. Relationships between men are growing and a community of brothers is being established. It is inspirational. Our Men’s Breakfast this past Saturday brought encouragement to nineteen men. How about that for a midsummer miracle. We already have a fantastic group of women, and they have been strong together for years. Such things produce a solid core of Christians for our church.
REDEEMED JUNK
In our first ever Klutter Kloset garage sale last weekend, we profited $1,000. One man’s junk is another man’s…oh you know that one, don’t you. This was a nice shot in the arm financially. I am reminded that God is able to take broken, stained and cast away people and redeem us. He has done so with the price of His Son.
SPLITTING OUR STOCK
The Youth and Family Committee acted this week to promote Shannon Piazza to a new role. She will be moving from ministry to our teens to directing an outreach to single moms. Mike and Katie VanGessel and Adam and Christy Hyatt are stepping in as team leaders for the High School/Junior High youth group. Both developments are a positive with great growth potential.
NEW MEMBER
We celebrate new member Charlie Holmberg. Charlie lived for years on Long Island, then moved to Louisiana. He now lives in Scottish Towers behind the church. He loved his church in Louisiana and feared he would never find a church like that again, but he testified yesterday in worship that God has met his church need and provided the same kind of loving congregation. We welcome you Charlie.
PRAY FOR
Don Graus – in and out of Countryside Hospital last week and surprised us by being in church yesterday.
Emma Taft – Largo Medical Center
Bonnie Guerin – pain is gone in hips and she is home with rehab doing great.
Kenn Gangel – health
MS. FAN THE FLAME
Yesterday at the 10:30 am service, we celebrated the winner of Ms. Fan the Flame–Mrs. Mary Robe. She was given a beautiful dozen yellow roses and the church affirmed their love for her and all the ladies who participated with a round of applause. Ms. Fan the Flame raised over $700. This project, along with other events and the ongoing generous support by members and friends, continues to keep the church paying every bill in a summer that has passed every expectation. We move into August with faith that each day the Lord’s goodness will meet all the needs of His ministry.
SPEAKING OF GREAT WOMEN
We celebrated the 100th birthday of Peg Hunter. The party was held at the home of family friends. Peg was delighted with the stack of notes of encouragement when I handed them to her. The highlight of the celebration is that Peg’s sister came and they haven’t seen each other for seven years. Peg (Margaret) and Leland Hunter were very good workers at The Kirk over the years. Leland died several years ago. Peg continues to keep up her optimistic and funny outlook on life.
KIRK CAFÉ
Thanks to all the workers and cooks for yesterday’s Kirk Café. Another great event full of fun and new friendships. A nice turnout for sure.
CHURCH COUNCIL
Our council met last Monday. Fred Garrett again led a tremendous meeting. There was laughter, prayer, discussions and decisions, but mostly we continue forward with unity, love, peace and joy in our common faith of serving Jesus Christ and His church. Let’s remember friends…It’s all about Jesus. “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14
Keep praying and believing – God is at work!
